Business value of AI, AI strategy, efficiency, productivity, ROI, payback period, total cost of ownership, new services, business model innovation, SMEs, public sector

A non-technical course for managers on where artificial intelligence creates measurable business value. It covers the three value channels (efficiency, quality, new value), AI-enabled new services and business-model differentiation, and a simple ROI and payback framework, illustrated with worked examples from SMEs and the public sector.

What You Will Learn

  • After completing the course, participants can:
identify concrete processes in their own organisation where AI can deliver measurable efficiency and quality gains
  • assess AI-enabled new services, products and business-model opportunities, including turning data into an asset
  • prepare a transparent cost-benefit case for an AI initiative (total cost of ownership, ROI, payback period, scenario ranges) and use it to prioritise candidate use cases
  • set realistic expectations, plan a small pilot with measurement, and scale on evidence

Agenda

Module 1: What AI changes: the efficiency story (three value levers, the automate-augment-transform ladder, a function map of efficiency opportunities, two mini cases, augmentation)
Module 2: Beyond savings: new services and differentiation (the revenue side of AI, four new-service patterns, AI-embedded products, SME and public-sector cases, business-model differentiation, data as an asset, common pitfalls)
Module 3: A simple ROI framework for AI (total cost of ownership, benefit categories, ROI and payback formulas, two worked examples, strategic value and risk, public compute and support options)
Total duration: approximately 55 minutes

Course Description

This course answers three questions every manager faces: what does AI concretely change in my organisation, how does that change reach the bottom line, and when does the investment pay itself back? Without writing code or discussing algorithms, it walks through the three channels of AI value creation (efficiency, quality and consistency, new value), the automate-augment-transform value ladder, and a function map for locating efficiency opportunities in customer services, operations, finance, HR and marketing.

The second part moves from the cost side to the revenue side: four new-service patterns, AI-embedded products, SME and public-sector cases, and business-model differentiation built on data as an asset. The final module provides a simple, honest ROI framework: the six cost items of total ownership, three benefit categories, ROI and payback formulas, and two fully worked numerical examples. The course is part of the BSC AI Factory training series. The BSC AI Factory is a EuroHPC JU AI Factory run by a Spain, Portugal, Türkiye and Romania consortium, with TÜBİTAK as the Turkish partner; the closing section introduces the public compute and support options available through EuroHPC, the BSC AI Factory and TRUBA.
